Born in response to the massive need generated by the COVID–19 pandemic, BHERC “Operation Love” is a formal initiative that extends support to those in need. In the case of serving the homeless, the pandemic has worsened the problem overburdening organizations that care for these populations on a regular basis. “Operation Love” responded with love and practical support that includes services to the homeless, seniors, and those with underlying health conditions, nurses, and healthcare workers on the frontline in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. since the beginning of the pandemic. In the first four months of the pandemic, 6,000 baskets, meals and essential hygiene kits were distributed; 1,200 blankets were collected and distributed to the homeless. In addition, 6,000 rolls of toilet paper and $15,000 was collected and given to the LA Union Rescue Mission. BHERC “Operation Love” led a “Support and Buy Black Business Day” for ESO WON bookstore and two global online tributes to nurses, healthcare workers and first responders that generated 2,600 online viewers.
